Revd Malcolm Jones

Welcoming the Revd Malcolm Jones… an introduction

After 11 happy years in Nottingham my family moved to Launceston in the summer of 2010. We met many members of the church last November when Jude, my wife and Charis our youngest daughter came to visit the area. Jude is a Chartered Physiotherapist who is currently a Senior Business Manager for a national Occupational Health Company.

We also have an eldest daughter Abbie (aged 21) who is studying abroad for part of her language degree at Queen Mary’s University London. She started in Germany and is now working as a TA in Argentina. Our middle child, Mitchell (20) is in his 2nd year at MMU Cheshire in Crewe doing a Drama degree. Also we will be accompanied by our two dogs, Pips and Dylan as well! The two chickens are staying behind as we cannot see a car journey to Cornwall with them in the back!

I was born in Manchester (one brother and one sister) and also lived in Sheffield in my youth where I did my first degree in material sciences. Jude and I bridged the North South divide as she is from London.

After my first degree I worked as a lab technician at a boarding school, it was during this time that I felt I was being called to the Ministry. After a year of pastoral work at my home church I began Ministerial training in 1983 at Wesley College, Bristol, combining a Theology and Religious Studies degree and two years placement at a local village church. During this time I met Jude and we were married not far away in Barnstaple, North Devon at the Baptist Church there.

After a month of married life we moved to Shetland – a new life, job, house, and culture. Peat cutting, beautiful scenery and gale force winds are abiding memories, as well as the birth of Abbie (in Aberdeen) and Mitch (in Lerwick).

Our next appointment was at Great Ayton in North Yorkshire where I had three churches to care for. Great Ayton was a good young family church and we spent eight really happy years there.

Although we never thought we would go to suburbia, we were called to Nuthall near Nottingham in 1999 and God has really blessed us during that time. We enjoyed our time in Nuthall with its’ many youth and family activities, but know it is now right to move on and we look forward to meeting you all in the Launceston area. A final thought… please bear with us while we try and get names and places right!
God Bless
Malcolm

We pray that Malcolm and Jude's time with us here in Launceston will be blessed
