All Church Services and Social Meetings are currently cancelled due to the Corona Virus Pandemic

Service sheets have been produced by the Methodist Church and will be provided each week on this site.
We are encouraging chapels to use this at the same time as their chapel service would have been on Sunday
so that we feel that we are still worshipping together, although not physically being together.

Circuit Weekly Services
During the pandemic, Services adapted for no physical congregation will be live streamed from Wesley’s Chapel in London
Service times: Wednesday 12:45; Thursday 12:45 ; Sunday 9:45 and 11:00.

Revd Jo Smart

Welcoming the Reverend Johanna Smart

Andi and I moved here from Ivybridge, for me to enter circuit ministry as a Probationer Presbyter Minister in the Launceston Circuit in September 2015. Andi grew up in Wales before coming to Plymouth to study at the Polytechnic. He currently works for Exeter University where he is a Professor of Operations Management in the Business School. We have two boys, Ben and Ioan who are both continuing their studies at University. Ben is currently studying for a PhD in Philosophy of Science at Cardiff University and Ioan is in his final year of his degree at Bristol University, studying Biological Sciences.

I was born in Gloucester but spent most of my youth growing up in Wembury, a small village, by the coast, in Devon. I attended the local Anglican Church, where I was confirmed at the age of 11. I left school at 16 to study at the College of Further Education in Plymouth where I qualified as an Accounting Technician. I worked within various financial institutions before following my dream to study dance. I successfully auditioned and began training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds where I studied classical ballet and contemporary dance. However, due to debilitating knee problems I was forced to discontinue my training and resume my career in accountancy.

It was through dance that I became more involved with the Church. I started a ministry of liturgical dance, which led to many different opportunities for outreach. However, after a number of years I felt God calling me to preach. I approached my Superintendent and commenced on the Local Preachers course before candidating for ordained ministry in 2013. My training took place at the Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham where I felt extremely fortunate and blessed to study with so many people from different backgrounds and experiences. In January 2015, Andi and I were informed that I would be stationed to the Launceston Circuit and both of us were very excited about where God had placed us. Now we seek to discern God’s call for us and for the circuit, striving to honour God in all that we do.

God bless - Jo
