About the Launceston Circuit

Launceston, the ancient capital and gateway to Cornwall sits astride the A30 in the agricultural heart of the Westcountry being one mile from the Devon and Cornwall border.

It is an area of considerable beauty and charm with easy access to both the North and South Coasts of the peninsular as well as to the cities of Exeter, Plymouth and Truro.

Dating back to Celtic times Launceston is the only walled town in Cornwall and is steeped in history being dominated by its Castle built by Brian de Bretagne the first Norman Earl of Cornwall in the 11th Century.

The Launceston Circuit has 14 churches with a membership of around 470 people who worship and enjoy fellowship as Christians together. The churches have a great tradition from the past and lie at the heart of the town, villages and hamlets. There is also a new vibrant church in Launceston on the Pennygillam estate with modern contemporary music and styles of worship and outreach for young families. The Bridge Church is part of the Bridge Community Centre.

As well as enjoying local history, historians and tourists interested in the life and mission of John Wesley can visit the Wesley Cottage at Trewint which became a place of rest and mission for Wesley and his colleagues in 1743.
